Touch Typing

Children need proper, methodical instruction to learn how to touch-type. Allowing them to randomly strike the keyboard isn't productive and is actually likely to instill poor typing habits that might be difficult or impossible to break. The best typing software for kids teaches children correct finger-to-key movement across the entire keyboard and includes a variety of material to keep them motivated while they learn. Here is a couple of programmes that are free and online, and have been recommended and tested by teachers.

The free online BBC 'Dance Mat Typing' introduces and progresses typing for children. There are four levels to play, each divided into three stages. Each stage builds on previous lessons, introducing new letters as you progress.  It is accompanied by an animated team of animals who show the learner the ropes. Best to wear headphones with this! https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zf2f9j6/articles/z3c6tfr

Ratatype is an online typing tutor and a great website for people who want to type better. You can master skills, challenge your friends or simply get a typing certificate. https://www.ratatype.com/
